The name Shahrukh Khan needs no introduction, one of the biggest superstars of Indian cinema, CNN, one of America’s biggest news channels once called him the biggest superstar on the earth. He made his debut with Deewana and since then he gave many blockbusters with amazing performances. In a career that span more than 20 years, Shahrukh Khan gave some brilliant performances that went unnoticed. Here are the 7 underrated performances in Shahrukh Khan.

Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na

Shahrukh Khan played a good-hearted aspiring musician Sunil in Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, who is the black sheep of his family and is deeply in love with Ana (Suchitra Krishnamurti). Directed by Kundan Shah, many regard it as one of Shahrukh Khan’s most memorable performances. It’s one of Shahrukh Khan’s earlier movies before he became the ‘superstar’ Shahrukh Khan and his honesty towards the craft can be seen in his performance.

Anjaam

Shahrukh Khan played negative characters in movies like Baazigar and Darr that got him lots of accolades but his performance in Anjaam as a scheming obsessive lover is mostly overlooked because the movie was not a big success. Shahrukh Khan played the character of Vijay Agnihotri, a rich spoilt brat who can go to any extent to get the girl he loved. It had Madhuri Dixit opposite him and definitely one of Shahrukh’s best but underrated performances.

Yes Boss

Yes Buss was released in 1997 and got overshadowed by his more successful movies Dil Toh Paagal Hain and Pardes but his performance in Yes Boss is one of his most memorable performances. Shahrukh Khan was absolutely convincing and delightful as the office sidekick to a cranky boss. The movie was directed by Aziz Mirza and the movie also featured Aditya Pancholi. Juhi Chawla was paired opposite Shahrukh Khan in the movie.

Swades

Swades was directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar whose last movie Lagaan was a big hit and even got nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language movie category. It was a heartfelt film on nationalism in its true sense without being jingoistic and gives a beautiful message about accepting one’s roots and coming home. Shahrukh Khan gave a subtle yet powerful performance as Mohan Bhargav, a NASA scientist who comes to India to meet his childhood  nanny and ends up finding his true calling.

Hey Ram!

Shahrukh Khan was not the main lead in this Kamal Haasan movie, in fact, he had an extended cameo but he impressed everyone with his performance. Hey Ram! is proof that Shahrukh Khan is much more capable than just playing a romantic hero. Set during the partition, the movie follows the story Saket Ram (Kamal Haasan) who lost his wife in the riots and now is on a mission to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi. Shahrukh Khan played the role of Amjad a former friend of Saket who meets him after years and plays a big role in changing Saket’s thought process. Shahrukh impressed all with his small but amazing performance.

Fan

Fan released in 2016 and despite getting lots of pre-release buzzes, did not live up to the expectations of the audience mainly because of its messy second half. Shahrukh Khan had a double role in the movie, one as superstar Aryan Kapoor and his lookalike and obsessive fan Gaurav. Shahrukh Khan gave an amazing performance for both the characters without being over the top. It still remains one of the most underrated performances of Shahrukh Khan.

Dil Se…

It was the first Hindi movie by Mani Ratnam but it didn’t do well at the box-office mainly because of being a slow burner but Shahrukh Khan impressed everyone with his performance as a news reporter. The movie had Manisha Koirala opposite Shahrukh Khan who also gave a fine performance. The music of the movie was by the maestro A.R Rahman and many consider it to be Rahman’s best work. Though the movie was a flop when released but 20 years later, now it’s considered a cult classic by many.
