Ranbir Kapoor, the scion of the Kapoor family and son of famous actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh made his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2007 alongside Sonam Kapoor. It failed at the box office but Ranbir Kapoor was appreciated for his performance and he even won Filmfare Award for Best Actor that year. It has been 15 years since Ranbir Kapoor has been in the industry and today he is one of the topmost stars of Bollywood. Along with being a big star, he is a great actor too, and here are five movies that prove why Ranbir Kapoor is considered one of the best actors of today’s generation.
- Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year
Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year was produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Shimit Amin who earlier directed acclaimed movies such as Ab Tak Chappan and Chak De India! It was one of his earlier movies of Ranbir Kapoor where he played the role of a Sikh boy Harpreet Singh Bedi who after his graduation joins a company as a salesman but gets entangled in office politics and after that, he decides to open his company with the help of his colleagues. The movie perfectly portrayed the struggles of an honest guy in today’s corporate world and Ranbir Kapoor gave a marvellous performance. Sadly the movie didn’t do well at the box office but Ranbir Kapoor himself considers Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year as one of his personal favourite movies of his.
It was the year 2011 when people noticed Ranbir Kapoor the actor with Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar. Ranbir Kapoor played the character of a rockstar in the movie with a broken heart and the movie beautifully showed how all success and money can’t heal a person who is broken from the inside. Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the movie was just out of this world where he perfectly portrayed the journey of a naive college student with a taste in music to a famous rockstar. Rockstar fetched Ranbir Kapoor his first Filmfare Best Actor (Male) Award.
In Barfi which was directed by Anurag Basu, Ranbir Kapoor played the titular character of Barfi who was mute and deaf but with a heart of gold. Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D’ Cruz played the female leads in the movie. Playing the character of a deaf and mute guy without making it cliche was not an easy job but Ranbir Kapoor nailed the character with his performance. Carrying off a whole movie without a single dialogue is not an easy thing but Ranbir played the character quite brilliantly. Barfi fetched Ranbir his second and consecutive Filmfare Best Actor Award.
- Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani
Yeh Jawani Hain Deewani directed by Ayan Mukerji was his second collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor after Wake Up Sid! It was one of the biggest hits of 2013. The movie had Deepika Padukone in the female lead with Aditya Roy Kapoor and Kalki Koechin in supporting roles. Ranbir Kapoor played the character of Bunny, an ambitious guy who wants to travel the world but while he reaches his goal, during his journey in the movie, Bunny realises the importance of coming back to home and family. Ranbir Kapoor perfectly portrayed the character of Bunny which had many layers to it.
Sanju directed by maverick director Rajkumar Hirani was the biopic of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and when Ranbir Kapoor was signed to play the character of Sanjay Dutt everyone was apprehensive about it because there is no similarity between Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt at all but Ranbir Kapoor proved everyone wrong with his act in the movie. When the first look of the movie came, everyone was surprised by the uncanny similarity between Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. In the movie, Ranbir Kapoor was not mimicking Sanjay Dutt but he got the nuances of the character so beautifully that made his performance so memorable. The movie earned more than 300 crores at the box office and Ranbir Kapoor went on to win many awards for his brilliant acting.
