Seven Famous Bollywood Personalities who Had a Brush with the Law

Bollywood has always been home to its fair share of controversies and many famous personalities have had very public run-ins with the law of the country. Many of them even landed in jail and Bollywood has never been a stranger to the judicial system of India. Here are Ten Bollywood personalities who had a brush with the law.

Salman Khan 

Salman Khan from his debut has always had this bad boy with a golden heart image. He was convicted for hunting blackbuck which is considered an endangered animal and hunting it is a crime. He was jailed for this case and got out on a bail. This case is still going on in court and his second brush with the law came after he was charged with killing a man sleeping on the road while being drunk and driving his car. He was sentenced to five years in jail but was acquitted on appeal in December 2015.

Fardeen Khan

During the early days of his career, Fardeen Khan, son of yesteryear actor Feroz Khan was caught by Police for keeping cocaine, an illegal drug in India. This case got lots of attention from the public and the media because of the famous people involved in the case. Later he was acquitted from having a jail term on the basis that he was a consumer who kept a very less amount for personal use and with the promise to through the process rehabilitation to get rid of his addiction.

Govinda

Govinda who was one of the biggest stars during the 90s famous for his comedy films had a brush with the law of India when he slapped an onlooker named Santosh Rai during one of his shoots. Govinda claimed that the guy was misbehaving with women and that’s why he slapped him but the Santosh Rai went forward a lodged a police complaint against Govinda for physical assault and criminal intimidation.

Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan, son of the Nawab of Pataudi and famous actress of 60s and 70s Sharmila Tagore who himself is a well-known actor had his share of cases with the law of India. The first one was the infamous Blackbuck case where Salman Khan was the main convict and Saif Ali Khan along with Neelam Kothari, Tabu, and Sonali Bendre were charged for being a part of hunting the Blackbuck. His second brush with the law came when he was charged for physical assault on a South African businessman in a Mumbai restaurant. He got bail in the case and didn’t go to lock up or jail.

Shiney Ahuja

Shiney Ahuja was charged with cases of molestation and rape by his domestic help. He was booked under Section 376 (rape), and Section 506 (threat to kill) of the Indian Penal Code. Though the victim took back the case, the court believed she did it under pressure and gave Shiney Ahuja seven years jail term and at present, he is out on bail. He is one of the few actors whose career was finished after having a brush with the law.

John Abraham

John Abraham was convicted for hitting two people on a cycle with his sports bike but it was John only who took them to the hospital. He was sentenced to jail for 15 days in the case of rash driving and injuring two people in the accident. The punishment was however suspended later with some fine.

Sanjay Dutt 

Sanjay Dutt, son of former actor and a Member of Parliament Sunil Dutt and former actress Nargis is a Bollywood actor who had a brush with the law and even got jailed for it. He was first arrested by the police when he opened and fired his gun upward from his house when he had a breakup with his then girlfriend. He got bail after an apology but in 1993 after the infamous riots and Bombay bomb blasts, he was arrested under TADA for keeping illegal guns in his residence and got a five years-long jail term for it but he was acquitted from the charges of TADA and jailed only for keeping illegal arms.
